Ellis failed to make an impression during Cactus League play, going hitless in all 17 at-bats. However, despite his underwhelming track record in the big league, where he posted a batting line of .141/.270/.212 in his first 100 plate appearances, the Phillies have decided to give him a chance.
Ellis will now have the opportunity to play with the Phillies' Triple-A affiliate, Lehigh Valley, where he can work on his skills and potentially earn a call-up back to the major leagues.
Last season, Ellis slashed .226/.355/.455, with 19 home runs, 67 RBIs, six stolen bases, and 61 runs scored across 112 games at the Triple-A level.
