Mets catcher Omar Narváez left the game early on Wednesday with a calf injury.
The move is seen as a precautionary measure following an injury sustained by starting catcher Omar Narvaez during Wednesday's game in Milwaukee. Narvaez's calf injury will be evaluated by the team doctors, and if he needs to be placed on the injured list, Alvarez is expected to replace him on the active roster.
Alvarez has been performing well at Triple-A Syracuse, where he has recorded a home run and a double, among other hits.
5 baserunners have tried to steal against Francisco Álvarez this year, only 2 have been successful.

If he does make it to the Mets' roster, the young catcher is likely to share playing time with Tomas Nido behind the plate and could potentially be used as a designated hitter while Narvaez is out.
