MLB Rumors: Boston Red Sox & Tampa Bay Rays Talking Trade
The Boston Red Sox have been actively shopping Bobby Dalbec since the offseason, and things have heated up on that front after he did not make their Opening Day roster. It is clear that he could use a change of scenery, and now that may be on the way. The Tampa Bay Rays are expressing interest in the infielder.
The Rays could use a bit more depth in their infield and Dalbec would provide them with just that. After all, he is capable of playing first base and third base, so he would be a solid option for them if acquired. However, he also could be a candidate at DH for them as well.
Although there is always some risk in trading with a division rival, the Red Sox are in a position where they can afford to. They are expected to be one of the worst teams in the league this season and are coming off of a three-game sweep to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Thus, things are already looking bad in Beantown in 2023.
In 117 games last season for Boston, Dalbec had 12 home runs, 39 RBIs, and a .215 batting average. This was after a 25-home run campaign in 133 games during the 2021 campaign.
