Injury Update On St. Louis Cardinals Shortstop
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Paul DeJong was recently placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to March 27, due to soreness in his back.
Although he has been able to participate in batting practice recently, he will need a minor league rehab assignment to fully recover from his condition.
Adam Wainwright threw a bullpen today, will get reviewed by medical officials today as he then takes stride toward rehab starts.

Paul DeJong is set to join Class A Palm Beach as its season open a later this week. Exact day TBD. But that will begin his rehab assignment. #stlcards
However, DeJong is reportedly scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Low-A Peoria soon, and if everything goes well, he should be available as a backup infielder for the Cardinals later this month.
In the meantime, Alec Burleson and Taylor Motter will be filling in for DeJong on the Cardinals' bench.

Dejong had a rough 2022 season, which saw him in and out of the lineup for the starting shortstop role.
Really though, it's been a tough past couple of seasons for DeJong, as he's managed to compile a brutal .182/.269/.352 triple-slash line, with 25 home runs, 70 RBIs, seven stolen bases and 63 runs scored across 190 games since the 2021 season.
