Diamondbacks Place Right-Handed Pitcher On 15-Day IL; Recall RHP

The Arizona Diamondbacks have made a couple roster moves to bolster their major-league pitching.

The Diamondbacks have recalled Luis Frias, a 24-year-old right-handed pitcher, from Triple-A Reno.

For his minor-league career, Frias has compiled a 3.82 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, with 409 strikeouts across 343.2 innings and 95 appearances (66 starts).

The move comes after Cole Sulser was placed on the 15-day injured list due to a shoulder injury.

Frias has previously appeared in 17 innings with the Diamondbacks, during which he allowed 20 earned runs. However, the team intends to use him primarily as a middle reliever in low-pressure situations, hoping to give him an opportunity to gain more experience and confidence in the majors.

It is expected that Frias' stay in the majors will be temporary, as he is likely to return to Triple-A once Sulser recovers. Photo Credit: Rob Schumacher/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK
