Pittsburgh Pirates Sign Second Baseman

The Pittsburgh Pirates have made a move to add depth to their middle infield, signing Domingo Leyba to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training.

Domingo Leyba is already in Pirates camp.

The 27-year-old utility infielder has some major league experience but spent most of the 2022 season in the San Diego Padres organization, playing at Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A El Paso.

In 108 games in the minors last season, Leyba recorded a .255 batting average, .356 on-base percentage, and .399 slugging percentage with 11 home runs, 64 RBI, and 12 stolen bases.

He'll likely start the 2023 season at Triple-A Indianapolis.

For his minor-league career, the twenty-seven-year-old holds a .284/.346/.433 triple-slash line, with 70 home runs, 409 RBIs, 55 stolen bases and 451 runs scored across 754 games played. Photo Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports
