MLB Rumors: 3 Potential Landing Spots for Gary Sanchez
Although the regular season is less than a month away, Gary Sanchez is still a free agent at the time of this writing. When noting that he has played in the majors over each of the last eight seasons, it is fair to assume that he will find a new home shortly. Let's look at three potential landing spots for the 6-foot-2 catcher.
Boston Red Sox: The Boston Red Sox could use a boost at the catcher position, and Sanchez would have the potential to provide them with just that. Sanchez would potentially be Boston's starter if acquired, as he offers far more pop than Jorge Alfaro and Reese McGuire. Thus, perhaps the former New York Yankee could be on the move to Boston.
Houston Astros: The Houston Astros would be wise to add another catcher to their group before the start of the regular season. At this time, they are running a duo of prospect Yainer Diaz and veteran Martin Maldonado. Sanchez would provide them with more insurance and would likely serve as an upgrade over both of them.
Los Angeles Angels: The Los Angeles Angels have been linked to Sanchez, so it is fair to argue that they are a potential landing spot for him. With the Angels looking to be competitive this season, adding a player like Sanchez behind the plate could be a way to help make that come to fruition.
