Mengden, who played for the Royals last season, spent most of his time at Triple-A Omaha, where he recorded a 5.20 ERA across 109 innings.
At 30 years old, he is considered to be an option for emergency starting pitching rather than a regular starter. Mengden will start the minor-league season with Triple-A Omaha, hoping to earn a call-up to the major leagues in the future.
