Cleveland Guardians Signing All-Star To Long-Term Extension
The Cleveland Guardians are getting some business done before the regular season begins. According to MLB Insider Jeff Passan, they're wrapping up a long-term extension for young infield start Andres Gimenez.
Second baseman Andrés Giménez and the Cleveland Guardians are finalizing a long-term contract extension, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN. Giménez, 24, was a first-time All-Star and Gold Glove winner last year and put up 7.4 Wins Above Replacement -- a star-level season.

Passan reports that it's a 7-year deal worth $106.5M.
The 24-year-old was an All-Star and a Gold Glove winner in just his third season in the majors. He posted a .297 average with an .837 OPS, along with 17 homers and 20 stolen bases. His OPS+ of 141 means he was 41% better than the average hitter. As noted by Passan, he also had an elite 7.4 WAR (Wins Above Replacement).
But the Guardians are apparently not stopping at Gimenez.
The Guardians are in advanced negotiations with multiple players on contract extensions, sources say. Among the players they’ve discussed a deal with this spring: Andrés Giménez, Amed Rosario, Triston McKenzie, Steven Kwan, Trevor Stephan.
