Baltimore Orioles Young Pitcher Sent Down to Triple-A
According to Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Banner, Grayson Rodriguez will not be on the Baltimore Orioles' Opening Day roster. Instead, the 6-foot-5 230-pound right-handed pitcher will be beginning the 2023 season in Triple-A.
There was an expectation that Rodriguez would start the year in the majors, as he is coming off of a very strong Triple-A season, and the Orioles rotation is not particularly strong heading into the season. However, the Orioles have instead decided to have him spend some more time in the minors before receiving his first major-league action.
Rodriguez spent the majority of last season with Triple-A Norfolk and thrived immensely in the process. In 14 appearances on the year with them, he had a 6-1 record to go along with a 2.20 ERA. If he can replicate that kind of stuff with them this year, it should not take him very much time to get called up to the Orioles.
