Yankees Top Prospect Favorite To Win Starting Shortstop Job

He's just twenty-two years old.

New York Yankees top prospect Oswald Peraza is the favorite to begin the 2023 season as the starting shortstop for the New York Yankees, according to reports by MLB Pipeline.

Despite strong competition from Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Anthony Volpe, Peraza's defensive skills and offensive potential have put him ahead of the pack.

Peraza had an impressive showing during his September call-up in 2022, slashing .306/.404/.429 and earning a spot on the Yankees' American League Championship Series roster. He was originally signed by the team for the small price of $175,000 in 2016.

Peraza has a lot of promise, with the potential to hit 20 home runs and steal 20 bases in a single season. He is a smooth defender with a strong arm and great range, making him a valuable asset to the team both offensively and defensively.

Last season, in the minors, he slashed .259/.329/.448, with 19 home runs, 50 RBIs, 33 stolen bases and 57 runs scored across 99 games.
