Three Pitchers To Compete For Diamondbacks Fifth Rotation Spot This Spring
The top four spots are set, but the final rotation spot is up for grabs.
Ryne Nelson, Drew Jameson and Tommy Henry will compete for fifth spot in the Arizona Diamondbacks' rotation this spring.
The leading candidates to secure the role are Nelson and Jameson, however, Henry is in the mix as well, seeing as he made nine starts over the final two months of the 2022 season.
Nelson made his brief major league debut last season and was impressive.
Over his first three starts, the twenty-four-year-old posted a 1.47 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, with 16 strikeouts across 18.1 innings of work.
Jameson also made his major debut last season and also was impressive.
The twenty-five-year-old made four starts, compiling a pristine 1.48 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, with 24 strikeouts across 24.1 innings. He held a 3-0 record.
Tommy Henry, the underdog to land the role, made his major league debut in 2022 as well.
Henry has the most experience of the group, having made nine starts. However, his results were not as good as the other two, as the twenty-five-year-old recorded a 5.36 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, with 36 strikeouts over 47 innings of work.
It's a good problem for the Diamondbacks to have and it should be interesting to see how it plays out this spring.
