St. Louis Cardinals Designate Pitcher For Assignment

To the waiver wire.

The St. Louis Cardinals have designated pitcher James Naile for assignment.

With the Cardinals' acquisition of Anthony Misiewicz, they had to clear out a spot on the 40-man roster and Naile drew the short straw.

Naile made his brief major-league debut last season, recording a poor 5.00 ERA over nine innings and seven appearances.

However, last season with Triple-A Memphis, the thirty-year-old compiled a solid 3.31 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, with 64 strikeouts over 73.1 innings of work. He made three starts, 41 relief appearances and held a 4-3 record.

There should be some teams interested in him on the waiver wire.

Naile is a former 20th-round pick by the Oakland Athletics in the 2015 MLB Draft.
