Pittsburgh Pirates Sign Free Agent Pitcher

Joining the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Pirates have signed pitcher Kent Emanuel to a minor-league contract with an invite to spring training.

Emanuel spent the majority of the 2022 season with the Philadelphia Phillies' organization, recording an impressive 2.37 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, with 44 strikeouts across 49.1 innings of work with Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

He spent nearly three months on the injured list due to issues with his elbow and shoulder.

Emanuel made his major league debut in 2021 with the Houston Astros, posting a strong 2.55 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, with 13 strikeouts over 17.2 innings of work.

If the thirty-year-old can stay healthy, there's a good chance he cracks the Pirates' Opening Day roster.

He is a former third-round pick by the Astros in the 2013 MLB Draft.
