Padres Offseason Signing To Be Part of Team's Six-Man Rotation

Following the addition of Michael Wacha on Tuesday, there were questions about whether he'd be pushed out of the rotation.

However, according to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com, Seth Lugo is expected to open the season as part of the San Diego Padres' six-man rotation.

Lugo signed with the Padres with the intent of joining the rotation and that apparently won't change with the addition of Michael Wacha.

Lugo hasn't been a full starter since the 2017 season, so the Padres will obviously ease him back into the role.

In addition, Nick Martinez, who made 37 relief appearances and 10 starts last season, will also begin the season in the rotation.

It's unclear if the Padres will go the full season with the six-man rotation, but it will allow each starter to get some extra rest in between outings.

Last season, the thirty-three-year-old Lugo posted a 3.60 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, with 69 strikeouts across 65 innings of work.
