Although Barria had a successful 2022 season as a reliever, recording a 2.61 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 54 strikeouts to 19 walks in 79.1 innings, he wants to return to the rotation.
To improve his chances, Barria reportedly shed 13 pounds during the offseason.
The Los Angeles Angels currently lack a clear sixth starter, so Barria is a candidate for the role. However, the team plans to use its top starters every six days, meaning the sixth starter might function more as a swing pitcher rather than a regular member of the rotation.
Jaime Barria has started 45 games in his Major League career, posting a 12-19 record, 4.67 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, with 167 strikeouts and 68 walks over 212.2 innings pitched.
