Detroit Tigers Claim Pitcher Off Waivers

That didn't take long.

He was designated for assignment on Thursday by the Arizona Diamondbacks to free up a spot on the 40-man roster for Andrew Chafin.

Now, the Detroit Tigers have claimed pitcher Tyler Holton off waivers.

In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the Tigers have transferred starter Casey Mize to the 60-day injured list.

Holton made his major-league debut last season, recording a 3.00 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, with six strikeouts over nine innings. He shut down left-handed batters, limiting them to just one hit in 11 at-bats.

The twenty-six-year-old spent the majority of the season at the Triple-A level, compiling a 4.43 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, with 43 strikeouts over 44.2 innings of work. He made 2 starts, 22 relief appearances, converted one save and held a 5-0 record.

Holton isn't exactly a flamethrower, with the best pitch in his arsenal being his changeup.

He gives the Tigers some bullpen depth heading into camp.
