Cincinnati Reds Sign Former Infielder-Turned-Pitcher
Former #Guardians OF 25yr old Pedro Alfonseca (@PedroAlfons3ca) is trying to make a comeback as a pitcher. Alfonseca was up to 96 mph in his throwing session today but has been up to 97. He also features a slider & a curve. Hopefully he gets a look & signed by an org for 2023. pic.twitter.com/1bCVTmB8UD

Alfonseca was once an infield prospect in the Cleveland Guardians' organization where he played in Low-A ball back in 2019.
Following that season, he seemingly disappeared but resurfaced pitching on the Rocky Mountain Vibes in the independent Pioneer League where he began making his transition to a pitcher.
He pitched 11.1 innings there, his first innings as a pitcher, posting a brutal 11.91 ERA, 2.65 WHIP, with just nine strikeouts and a whopping 16 walks.
The Reds must see something in his profile that they like, however, as they are taking a chance on him.
With some improved control, Alfonseca could be an interesting pitcher as he has a live arm.
