Braves Could Have Talented Young Infielder Begin Season At Triple-A

Well, this is a surprise.

Several weeks ago, there were reports that he would compete solely for the starting shortstop job this spring.

According to Mark Bowman of MLB.com, the Atlanta Braves may start Orlando Arcia at shortstop for the upcoming season, with Vaughn Grissom potentially starting at Triple-A Gwinnett.

Bowman predicts that Arcia will be the team's Opening Day shortstop, with Grissom potentially taking over the job at some point during the year.

Grissom's defense at shortstop has been a topic of concern, but he has reportedly improved with the help of third base coach Ron Washington over the winter.

Arcia is known for his better defensive skills, and this may be a factor in the Braves' decision to start him, seeing as they already have plenty of offensive depth throughout their lineup.

The twenty-two-year-old Grissom exploded onto the scene last year with a scorching-hot start to his major-league career, however, he cooled off down the stretch. Regardless, Grissom still finished the season slashing a very good .291/,.353/.440 line, with five home runs, 18 RBIs, five stolen bases and 24 runs scored over 41 games.
