The Rays have made no other moves at catcher this offseason, and don't appear inclined to, indicating that Bethancourt will assume the starting role.
Last season, split between the Oakland Athletics and the Rays, the thirty-one-year-old slashed a respectable .252/.283/.409, with 11 home runs, 34 RBIs, five stolen bases and 39 runs scored across 100 games.
Over his six-year career, Bethancourt has spent time with the Atlanta Braves, San Diego Padres, Athletics and now the Rays.
