San Diego Padres Sign Shortstop

Keeping him around.

The San Diego Padres have re-signed shortstop Kelvin Melean to a minor league contract.

Melean split time between High-A and Triple-A in the Padres' system last season, slashing .238/.332/.327, with three home runs, 29 RBIs, two stolen bases and 38 runs scored over 269 at-bats.

For his minor-league career, Melean has a .247/.327/.655 triple slash line, with 12 home runs, 171 RBIs, 33 stolen bases and 187 runs scored over 1,593 at-bats.

Melean will return as organizational depth at the middle infield position and, because he's just twenty-four years old, there's still a chance that he continues to develop into a major league player.
