San Diego Padres Sign Infielder
The San Diego Padres have added to their depth, as they have signed infielder Brantley Bell to a minor league contract.
Bell split this past season in the Atlantic League and Frontier League. In 96 total games in 2022, he was very solid, as he had 25 home runs, 83 RBIs, and a .357 batting average. After playing extremely well in independent leagues, he will now be aiming to translate over that kind of success to the minor leagues in 2023 from here.
Overall, there's no harm in the Padres taking a chance on Bell. He showed this past season that he does have the potential to provide a bit of pop while playing at his best, and now he will be aiming to do just that with the Padres organization from here. At worst, he will be a depth option for San Diego, but if he performs well, maybe he could even receive a call-up from them at some point during the 2023 season. Anything is possible, right?
