According to Barry Jackson and Craig Mish of the Miami Herald:
The Marlins appear open to dealing a significant player on their roster for first baseman Triston Casas, a former Plantation American Heritage standout who is Boston's No. 2 prospect, according to MLB.com. Miami may be willing to part with one of their frontline starting pitchers for Casas, Who was selected 26th overall in the 2018 draft.
And to get Casas from the Red Sox, it would certainly have to be "a significant player", probably along the lines of Pablo Lopez, Trevor Rogers or Edward Cabrera, to start.
The Red Sox have been said to be interested in infielder Joey Wendle from the Marlins, who plays 2B, SS and 3B. After the loss of Xander Bogaerts, adding a proven contributor to the infield would certainly be on the BoSox' radar. And bringing in a young premier pitcher would be a nice add, after the loss of Nate Eovaldi, and Chris Sale's continuous injury troubles.
As for the 23-year-old power prospect Casas, he has blasted 46 long balls to go with 181 RBIs and a .374 on-base percentage and .848 OPS in 284 minor league games. He had a brief 27-game tryout last season with the Red Sox but didn't quite hit his stride, batting just .197.
Another top Boston prospect that Jackson and Mish say the Marlins have interest in is No. 3 on their prospect list, Ceddane Rafaela. The SS/OF might not be ready to make significant contributions on the big league level until late in 2023 or in 2024.
