Red Sox Acquire Veteran Pitcher In Exchange For Matt Barnes

Headed to Boston.

In exchange for Matt Barnes, the Miami Marlins are sending back pitcher Richard Bleier to the Boston Red Sox.

Boston has been searching for another left-handed pitcher in their bullpen and they get that with Bleier.

This past season, the thirty-five-year-old recorded a respectable 3.55 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and 32 strikeouts over 50.2 innings of work. He made 55 relief appearances, finished 12 games and converted one save.

Bleier is entering his eighth major league season. For his career, he owns a solid 3.06 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 171 strikeouts across 299.2 innings. He spent four years with the Baltimore Orioles, one with the New York Yankees, and another three with the Marlins.

Bleier is in the final year of a two-year, $6 million contract. He also has a $3.75 million club option for 2024.

It's a good addition for the Red Sox.
