Philadelphia Phillies Sign Pitcher

An interesting signing for the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Phillies have signed pitcher Jake Jewell to a minor league contract.

Jewell spent time with the Cleveland Guardians and the Minnesota Twins this past season, posting a 3.21 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 65 strikeouts over 56 innings at the Triple-A level. He made 45 relief appearances, converting five saves and held a 2-2 record.

For his major-league career, the twenty-nine-year-old holds an ugly 7.75 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 34 strikeouts over 38.1 innings of work.

He'll give the Phillies some added organizational pitching depth for the 2023 season. Jewell is a former fifth-round pick by the Los Angeles Angels in the 2014 MLB Draft.
