Philadelphia Phillies Acquire All-Star Closer From Detroit Tigers

The Philadelphia Phillies make a big move, acquiring All-Star closer Gregory Soto from the Detroit Tigers.

The Phillies are acquiring Soto and Kody Clemens from the Tigers for Matt Vierling, Nick Maton and Donny Sands.

The deal is not yet finalized, but it appears the Tigers will end up with multiple young position players in exchange for their talented closer.

Soto is expected to slide into a setup role for the Phillies this season behind Craig Kimbrel, Seranthony Dominguez and Jose Alvarado.

In 64 appearances last season, Soto posted a 3.28 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 60 strikeouts over 60.1 innings while converting 30 saves.

The Phillies also acquired infielder Kody Clemens, the son of former 11-time All-Star, two-time World Series champion and seven-time Cy-Young Award winner Roger Clemens.

More to come.
