Baltimore Orioles & Kansas City Royals Complete Trade

The Baltimore Orioles and Kansas City Royals have completed a trade, with the Orioles acquiring infielder/outfielder Ryan O'Hearn.

The Royals get the old stand-by, "cash considerations" in exchange. O'Hearn had been DFA's by KC last week, and the O's have decided to take a shot on him.

O'Hearn broke into the big leagues in 2018 with some nice numbers in his rookie year, posting a .950 OPS with 24 extra-base hits in 44 games (12 HR, 10 doubles).

But it's been a struggle for him since then, as he failed to hit above .200 in 2019 and 2020, and overall has amassed a .219 career average in five years, with an OPS+ of 83 — 17% below league average. He has a total of 38 home runs in just over 1,000 plate appearances.

To open up a spot on the 40-man roster for O'Hearn, the Orioles have designated right-hander Chris Vallimont for assignment.
