Oakland Athletics Designate Pitcher For Assignment

An interesting name headed to the waiver wire.

The Oakland Athletics have designated pitcher Tyler Cyr for assignment.

Cyr posted a strong 2.70 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 16 strikeouts over 13.1 innings of work last season after being claimed off waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies. 

He spent the rest of the season in the minors, recording a 2.85 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and 45 strikeouts across 41 innings of work. He made 39 relief appearances and held a 2-3 record.

There's a good chance a team will put in a claim for his services.

Cyr is a former 10th-round pick by the San Francisco Giants in the 2015 MLB Draft.
