In return, Minnesota sends young minor league RHP Cristian Jimenez to the Nats. The Twins have DFA'd Oliver Ortego to make room on the roster.
Alexy has pitched a total of 30 innings in the big leagues over the last two seasons, though without much success. In 2022 with the Texas Rangers, he posted an 11.57 ERA (nine earned runs surrendered in seven innings), with a 9:6 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
He became a valued prospect for the Rangers after his 2021 minor league season, which saw him post a 1.66 ERA at AA and AAA, allowing just 39 hits in 65 innings, with a 1.01 WHIP and 10.5 K/9. His 2022 year in Triple-A didn't go quite as well, however, with a 5.91 ERA in 96 innings.
The 18-year-old Jimenez had a 3.38 ERA in 37.1 in rookie ball, with one save, and a 49:7 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
