Minnesota Twins Sign Pitcher; Son Of Hall Of Fame Catcher

Bringing him back.

The Minnesota Twins have signed pitcher Dereck Rodriguez to a minor-league contract.

Over his four-year major league career, Rodriguez holds a pedestrian 4.24 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and 166 strikeouts over 229 innings of work. In 53 appearances, he's made 35 starts and 18 relief appearances. He spent the first three seasons of his career with the San Francisco Giants before latching on with the Twins last year.

He spent the majority of the 2022 season at Triple-A St. Paul, where he posted a 4.75 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and 92 strikeouts over 94.2 innings. He made 16 starts, seven relief appearances and held an 8-4 record. The thirty-year-old has yet to find much success in the majors or minors, but he has versatility which can be valuable.

Rodriguez is the son of Hall of Fame catcher Ivan Rodriguez.

He is a former sixth-round by the Twins in the 2011 MLB Draft.
