Does MLB’s No. 1 overall prospect have the inside track on an Opening Day roster spot in 2023? https://t.co/tmtibo0PJ7 pic.twitter.com/iCvdc1vPxI
DiComo writes that with the addition of veteran catcher Omar Narvaez this offseason, and also rostering reliable Tomas Nido, Alvarez will likely see time at Triple-A Syracuse to start the 2023 season.
However, there's also a very strong possibility that Alvarez has a very strong spring and forces his way onto the Opening Day roster. Unfortunately, though, the Mets will likely take it slow with the MLB's No. 1 prospect and give him some additional time to continue to develop his skills in the minors before he takes over as the club's everyday catcher in the future.
Last season, the twenty-one-year-old slashed .234/.382/.443, with nine home runs, 31 RBIs and 31 runs scored over 45 games at the Triple-A level.
