NY Mets Hire 2-Time World Series Champ To Staff

The New York Mets will be adding some World Series-winning pedigree to their coaching staff, as they'll be hiring former 2-time champ as a player, and another as a coach, Eric Hinske.

Per MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal, Hinske is expected to be the Mets’ new assistant hitting coach. Eric Chavez, who held the position last season, was recently shuffled to bench coach, while Jeremy Barnes was named hitting coach.

Hinske is familiar to Mets GM Billy Eppler, having worked on the Los Angeles Angels coaching staff for him in 2018, and in 2009 was traded to the New York Yankees at the trade deadline, when Eppler was in the Yanks' front office.

The now-45-year-old Hinske was the American League Rookie of the Year in 2002 with the Toronto Blue Jays, and went on win a ring in 2007 with the Boston Red Sox and again in 2009 with the Yankees.

After retiring, he took to coaching, and was on the Chicago Cubs' staff in 2016, earning himself another World Series title for his resume.
