Detroit Tigers Sign Catcher


Joining the Detroit Tigers.

The Tigers have signed catcher Julio E. Rodriguez to a minor league contract.

Rodriguez spent the previous six seasons in the St. Louis Cardinals' minor league system and will now head to the Tigers to serve as additional catching depth.

This past season, at Double-A Springfield, Rodriguez slashed a solid .252/.387/.823, with 11 home runs, 50 RBIs, two stolen bases and 33 runs scored across 218 at-bats and 60 games.

For his career in the minors, the twenty-five-year-old holds a .264/.333/.756 triple-slash line, with 42 home runs, 220 RBIs, three stolen bases and 159 runs scored over 1,271 at-bats.

Rodriguez is still looking to make his major league debut.
