Cincinnati Reds Joey Votto Speaks On Shoulder Injury

His season was cut short due to the injury.

Cincinnati Reds' Joey Votto said on Wednesday in a radio interview that his left shoulder isn't fully recovered yet from the August surgery he underwent to repair a torn rotator cuff.

Votto is almost five months removed since the surgery, and he's posted videos on his social media this offseason of him taking swings in a batting cage. Unfortunately, the veteran would not say whether he would be ready for the start of the 2023 season and, in fact, seemed to show some uncertainty when asked the question.

The Reds are prepared for this, however, as they went out and signed Wil Myers earlier this offseason, giving some extra depth at first base in case Votto isn't ready in time.

The thirty-nine-year-old had a disappointing season last year, slashing just .205/.319/.689, with 11 home runs, 41 RBIs and 31 runs scored across 91 games. We should get more information on his status in a few weeks.
