Chicago Cubs Release Infielder

He was designated for assignment just before Christmas to make room on the 40-man roster for pitcher Anthony Kay.

Now, the Chicago Cubs have officially released infielder Alfonso Rivas, making him a free agent.

Rivas finally got an extended look in the majors this past season, unfortunately for him, he only managed to record a .235/.322/.307 triple-slash line, with three home runs, 25 RBIs, six stolen bases and 27 runs scored across 101 games played.

For his major league career, the twenty-six-year-old holds a .247/.331/.653 triple-slash line, with four home runs, 28 RBIs, six stolen bases and 34 runs scored over 295 at-bats.

He's still young, at just twenty-six years old, but offers very little power and poor defensive value. Regardless, a team will likely take a flyer on him this offseason.
