Chicago Cubs Pitcher Goes Unclaimed On Waivers; Sent Outright

He went unclaimed on waivers.

As a result, the Chicago Cubs have sent pitcher Manuel Rodriguez outright to Triple-A Iowa.

Rodriguez has a good arm, but has really struggled to consistently throw strikes at the major-league level.

Over the last two seasons in the majors, Rodriguez posted a pedestrian 4.88 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, and 24 strikeouts over 31.1 innings of work. He made 34 relief appearances, converted five saves and held a 5-3 record.

For his minor league career, the twenty-six-year-old has a 4.01 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, and 271 strikeouts over 213.1 innings.

He'll begin the season at Triple-A Iowa but it probably won't be long before he gets another opportunity at the major league level.

Rodriguez has good stuff and with the proper development, he could be a reliable bullpen arm.
