Chicago Cubs Outright Catcher

He was designated for assignment after the Chicago Cubs signed Tucker Barnhart.

Now, the Cubs have sent catcher P.J. Higgins outright to Triple-A Iowa.

In 74 games last season, Higgins slashed an underwhelming .229/.310/.383, with six home runs, 30 RBIs and 23 runs scored. He fared much better in the minors, however, slashing a fantastic .417/.500/.1.069 line, with a home run, 17 RBIs, one stolen base and nine runs scored across 72 at-bats.

The twenty-nine-year-old will provide the Cubs with some additional organizational catching depth, that is, if he doesn't elect free agency.
