Boston Red Sox Trade Former All-Star to Miami Marlins
Last week, the Boston Red Sox designated former All-Star closer Matt Barnes for assignment. Now, he has officially found a new home, as the Red Sox have traded him to the Miami Marlins. Richard Bleier is heading the other way in the swap.
Barnes will now be aiming to find his previous form but as a member of the Marlins in 2023. In 44 games this past season with the Red Sox, he had a 0-4 record, 4.31 ERA, and eight saves. His struggles on the year resulted in him losing the closer role, but a new year offers a clean slate, and he will be looking to take advantage of it.
With this move, the Marlins have bulked up their bullpen depth. If Barnes can find his old form, he could be a very good addition for them. Thus, there is no harm in them taking a shot on him.
