Blue Jays DFA Veteran Pitcher; Recorded 0.00 ERA In Minors Last Season

He's been unable to find success at the major league level.

The Toronto Blue Jays have designated pitcher Julian Merryweather for assignment.

With the addition of veteran Brandon Belt, the Blue Jays had to remove a player from the 40-man roster and, unfortunately for him, Merryweather drew the short straw.

Merryweather was up and down the minors and major leagues last season and ended up recording a lackluster 6.75 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and 23 strikeouts over 26.2 innings.

The thirty-one-year-old fared much better in the minors, however, posting a perfect 0.00 ERA, 0.67 WHIP, and 22 strikeouts across 16.1 innings of work.

Merryweather has a good arm and should generate some interest on the waiver wire for a team who believes they can translate that success to the highest level.
