Arizona Diamondbacks Outright Pitcher

Surprisingly, he went unclaimed on waivers.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have sent pitcher Taylor Widener outright to Triple-A Reno.

Widener cleared waivers after being designated for assignment on Dec. 23.

Over 14 relief appearances for the D-Backs last season, the twenty-eight-year-old registered a very respectable 3.63 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, and 14 strikeouts over 17.1 innings. In the minors this past season, however, he posted an ugly 5.40 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and 47 strikeouts across 36.2 innings of work.

Once considered one of the better prospects in the D-Backs' system, Widener has been unable to translate his former success to the major leagues. The right-handed pitcher is a former 12th-round pick by the New York Yankees in the 2016 MLB Draft.
