San Diego Padres Sign Veteran Catcher
The San Diego Padres have signed Pedro Severino to a split contract. If he makes the major league squad, he will make $1.95 million and have the chance to make an additional $550k in performance bonuses.
Severino spent this past season with the Milwaukee Brewers, where he played in eight games. During them, he had zero home runs, zero RBIs, and a .222 batting average. Although he did not get too much time in the majors in 2022, he will now be trying to change that with the Padres in 2023.
Severino is a veteran catcher who could end up being a backup option for SD if he impresses at Spring Training. In 370 career MLB games, he has 33 home runs, 134 RBIs, and a .235 batting average.
