Pittsbugh Pirates Sign Shortstop
The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed Shawn Ross to a minor league contract.
This is big news for Ross, as this is his first contract with a major league team. As a result, the 23-year-old is now officially a prospect and will be hoping to fight his way up to the Pirates' major league roster later down the road.
Ross split this past season with Faulker University and then with the Grand Junction Rockies of the Pioneer League. In 56 games with Faulker, he had 18 home runs, 69 RBIs, and a .317 batting average. Overall, it was a very good season from him, and that carried over to Grand Junction. In 81 games in the Pioneer League, he had 24 home runs, 90 RBIs, and a .280 batting average.
It's clear that Ross certainly has some pop in his bat, but now he will have to translate that over to the minor leagues and beyond. Time will tell what happens with the young shortstop from here.
