Pirates & Diamondbacks Swing Trade
The Pittsburgh Pirates designated for assignment once-promising infielder Diego Castillo on Thursday, and it only took a day for them to find a taker in a trade. The Arizona Diamondbacks will be glad to take on Castillo, in exchange for a minor league pitcher.
Pirates have acquired minor league RHP Scott Randall from the Diamondbacks in exchange for Diego Castillo. Randall, 24, had a 3.82 ERA in 21 games (all starts) at High-A last season.

The Pirates acquire 24-year-old right-hander Scott Randall, who spent the 2022 season in High-A.
Randall started 21 games for the D-Backs affiliate, delivering a 3.82 ERA with a 104:25 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Castillo was one of the pieces acquired by the Pirates from the New York Yankees in the Clay Holmes trade in 2021. Both Castillo and Hoy Park, also obtained from the Yanks, are now out of the Bucs' organization.
I liked Diego Castillo. Good kid. That said, fine with getting a 24-year-old not far removed from college who in '22 had a 3.82 ERA in 21 GS, with 25 BB and 104 K.

The Clay Holmes trade wasn't good, but it's not Scott Randall's fault. Take a look. What's the harm?
The Snakes get a player in Castillo who hit .206 this past season, and played at nearly every position on the diamond. He's a natural middle infielder.
