Phillies Sign Former First-Round Pick Outfielder
Joining the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Phillies have signed outfielder Garrett Whitley to a minor league contract.
Whitley, a former first-round pick by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2015 MLB Draft, has yet to make his major league debut.
A small move, but the Phillies recently signed OF Garrett Whitley to a minor league deal. He was a first round pick with the Rays in 2015. Quality defender with some swing and miss concerns. The Phillies are hoping to unlock some things with his bat. He’ll report to Lehigh Valley

Last season, Whitley signed a minor-league deal with the Milwaukee Brewers and went on to slash .220/.355/.385, with 10 home runs, 35 RBIs, 19 stolen bases and 50 runs scored across 291 at-bats between Double-A and Triple-A.
The twenty-five-year-old will start the season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, the Phillies' Triple-A affiliate, and will look to finally make his major league debut in the 2023 season.
