MLB Rumors: Rockies, Marlins Talking Trade

The trade market will continue to heat up in the weeks ahead now that the big-name free agents are off the board. Two teams that have discussed a move, according to the latest report, are the Colorado Rockies and Miami Marlins. 

The Marlins are in the market for more offense, while the Rockies, of course, are always looking for talented pitchers that can handle the thin air of Denver. With that in mind, per MLB Insider Jon Heyman, the Marlins are interested in Rockies infielder Brendan Rodgers, and Colorado is looking for young starter Edward Cabrera in return. 

The 24-year-old right-hander Cabrera is one of the more promising arms in the game, this past season posting a 3.01 ERA in 14 starts with a 1.07 WHIP and 9.4 K/9. The Marlins would undoubtedly be seeking a significant return for the Dominican talent.

Rodgers had a somewhat unremarkable season in his 4th year in the big leagues, and it's unlikely he'd be enough of a return on his own. He batted .266 with a .733 OPS, with 13 HR and 63 RBIs, with a below-average OPS+ of 96. And as is the case with most Colorado hitters, his home/road splits are eye-popping: 

Home: .313 avg, .875 OPS, 10 HR, 46 RBIs

Road:  .218 avg,  .588 OPS,  3 HR, 17 RBIs

With an almost identical number of at-bats in the friendly confines of Coors Field and on the road, the numbers suggest that it's buyer-beware for the Marlins if they have interest in Rodgers.
