MLB Rumors: Chicago Cubs Linked to Free-Agent Catcher
After losing Willson Contreras to division rival St. Louis Cardinals, the Chicago Cubs need to add a new catcher. As a result, they are being linked to free-agent catcher Gary Sanchez.
Sanchez is coming off of a rough 2022 season with the Minnesota Twins that saw him have 16 home runs, 61 RBIs, and a .205 batting average. Although these numbers are not particularly dominant, the 30-year-old's past success at the plate could make him an appealing option for the Cubs. Keep in mind, he does have two seasons with at least 30 home runs.
Perhaps a change of scenery to Chicago could help Sanchez find his previous All-Star form. At worst, he would be a serviceable starter for the Cubs as they try to get back into playoff contention.
