MLB Rumors: Chicago Cubs Linked to First Baseman

According to Anthony DiComo, the Chicago Cubs have had discussions with free-agent first baseman Dominic Smith.

Smith is coming off of a disastrous 2022 season with the New York Mets, but it's clear that there is interest from the Cubs for his services still. In 58 games on the year, he had zero home runs, 17 RBIs, and a low .194 batting average. He will be hoping to bounce back in 2023, and it will be intriguing to see if he has the chance to in the Windy City.

Smith's past success and upside make it easy to understand why the Cubs are willing to take a chance on him. Let's see if the 27-year-old ends up inking a deal with them from here.
