MLB Rumors: Astros Eyeing Diamondbacks Outfielder
No, the Houston Astros aren't done adding yet. At least, that's their plan. Still in the market for an outfielder, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic and others have noted that they've been in talks with the Arizona Diamondbacks for Daulton Varsho.
Daulton Varsho would be an incredible get for the Astros if the trade happens. He can play outfield at an elite level and can catch. He had an OPS+ of 109 and 27 homers in 2022.

It will cost A LOT. At least Luis Garcia, Cristian Javier, or Hunter Brown and more prospects.
Varsho, now 26, broke out big-time in 2022 with his first full-time season, launching 27 homers and stealing 16 bases. He also plays not only center field, but catcher as well. That's a unique combination. And his defense in the outfield is supreme. Split between right field and center, he notched 19 defensive runs saved. And in Outs Above Average, he ranked in the 99th percentile.
The D-Backs do have three young, promising outfielders on the trade market, looking to deal one of them. Alex Thomas and Jake McCarthy are the others. But Varsho will come at the highest cost.
In fact, notes Rosenthal, the Astros feel "the price is too high."
They could pivot back to Michael Brantley, 36, who's had trouble staying healthy the past couple of seasons.
