MLB Rumors: 2 Teams Offering Willson Contreras Long-Term Deal
According to Gordon Wittenmyer of NBC Sports Chicago, the St. Louis Cardinals and Houston Astros have both sent multi-year offers to free-agent catcher Willson Contreras.
Contreras is the best catcher on the free-agent market, so it makes sense that St. Louis and Houston both want to sign him to a long-term contract. The Cardinals of course lost Yadier Molina to retirement after this season, while the Astros have moved on from Christian Vazquez and want an upgrade from Martin Maldonado. As a result, Contreras is a clear fit for both of them.
Contreras offers solid power at the plate, so he would absolutely bring more pop to either of these team's lineups, too. In 113 games last season with the Chicago Cubs, the three-time All-Star had 22 home runs, 55 RBIs, and a .243 batting average. Let's see if he ends up signing with one of these clubs from here.
