Minnesota Twins Sign Super-Utilityman

He's played at least 14 games at every position on the diamond except catcher and first base, and now after four seasons in Detroit, super-utilityman switch-hitter Willi Castro has signed on with the Minnesota Twins.

It's a minor league deal with an invite to the big league camp at spring training, per Twins beat reporter Darren Wolfson.

Last season with the Detroit Tigers, Castro played at least six games at each of 2B, SS, 3B, LF, CF, and RF. He batted .241 with a .651 OPS, eight homers, 31 RBIs and nine stolen bases in 392 plate appearances.

The 25-year-old out of Puerto Rico finished 4th in AL Rookie of the Year balloting in 2020 when he hit .349 with a .932 OPS.

He has some exciting skills, including speed which places him in the 78th percentile, and arm strength in the 87th percentile.

For a team with the recent injury history that the Twins have, a versatile player who can slot in at virtually any position should have tons of value. It's a nice pickup for Minnesota.
